Step 1: Measuring & calculating

Before you can install a gas spring, you first need to measure the dimensions of your application. As soon as you have done this, you can enter these application dimensions and details into our calculator tool. After you have done this, the calculator will automatically calculate the exact gas spring dimensions for your desired application. It really is that easy! Now it is time to move on to the next step. Step 2: Ordering the right gas spring

Now that you have the correct measurements for your application, you can order your desired gas spring. Thanks to our configurator tool you can find the right materials and mounting parts for your gas spring. Moreover, this tool will also appear after calculating the gas spring measurements in step 1.

Step 3: Preliminary preparations

Did you receive your gas spring? Then you can finally start installing your gas spring. It is extremely important that you understand the results, in other words the measuring points of the calculator tool. If you do not understand these measuring points, you could end up damaging your application! We will give an extra explanation of the measuring points down here:

A [inch]

The A measurement is the distance from the hinge to the point of attachment of the gas spring on the cover in the lengthwise direction of the cover in inches.

B [inch]

The B measurement is the distance from the hinge to the point of attachment of the gas spring on the cover in the height direction of the cover in inches. If you use a bracket (see webshop) then the distance from the bottom of the cover to the attachment point of the gas spring is 20mm.

C [inch]

The C measurement is the horizontal distance between the hinge and the attachment point of the gas spring to the fixed world. Distance to the middle point of rotation of the mounting part.

D [inch]

The D measurement is the vertical distance between the hinge and the attachment point of the gas spring to the fixed world. Distance to the middle point of the screw eye, ball, or spindle.

Step 4: Marking the right screw points

This is an extremely important step! Mark the calculated inch points from the previous steps on your application. You can retrieve your measuring points from the assembly drawing made by the calculator tool. Make sure you mark the screw points on the exact measurements given by the calculator tool! If you don’t mark the screw points on the exact measurements, the gas spring may not fit in the end.

Step 5: Installing the gas spring

After marking the screw points on your application, it’s finally time to install your gas spring. Gas springs must always be installed in their extended state. Screw the mounting parts of the gas spring on the applied markings. We recommend using stainless-steel self-tapping screws to attach each mounting part.

After screwing the mounting parts on your application, all that’s left to do is snapping the gas spring itself into place. You can execute this by snapping the extended gas spring onto the mounting parts. The best way to do this is to have someone helping you so that one person can keep the application lid in position while the other person installs the gas spring. It’s extremely important that you mount the gas spring with the narrow rod end lower than the gas-filled piston. As soon as you have done this, your gas spring is ready for duty!
